This is an amazing flute. And due to the bigger bore of the bamboo the holes are usually wider and thus recommended best fit wider fingers.
I am offering a concert tuned G Andean Quena that you can play with others and use to record and a Quena that is tuned to itself and best to play alone.
The professionally tuned G major Quena. Will play in Am, C and Em also. Most of my Quenas have a natural curve. This does not affect the sound. Some folks like a curve and others do not. If you do not like a natural curve in your Quena this is not the flute for you! Bamboo can curve to seek out light as it is growing. May we be so flexible in our lives too.
The 15 inch Quena is "The Flute" of South America and captures the musical heart of the ancient peoples of the Andes Mountains. It is a really fun flute that can musically cry and celebrate in the same song.
I have bought some Quenas on my travels in the flute market in Cochabamba Bolivia, in Argentina and Peru.
It is an end blown flute made with a hot iron that burns a notch at the top. When a fine jet of air from a relaxed grin crosses it, there is sound and then adventure.
Lesson: At first just hold the flute without covering the holes. Lift it upward pressing against a soft lower lip and tilt it or pivot it while you press up against the lip to find the sweet spot where the air will spit to make sound.
It is a full major scale. All closed is Do. As in do re mi fa so la ti and the back hole is do. The traditional bottom note is G. So all closed is G, A B C D E F# all open back hole close, and G all holes opened including the back hole. So a concert tuned Quena is a G flute. Which will also play in A minor ( by starting on A) and C (by using the peace sign fingers together) and Em ( by starting on E and moving into the second octave. The last 2 notes on the second octave are at times much easier to get when you close the first 2 bottom holes.
The Concert tuned G is sought by musicians to play with others and to record with instrumentation tuned in A440.
Every Quena comes with 2 protective bindings, a flute bag, a flute lesson and free shipping inside the USA!
Special thanks to TeraShock music for providing such a wonderful piece of music so I could let you know what my Quenas sound like.
