In my early days as a flutemaker, I made thousands of side blown Small Majors and Small Minors. And now they are back!
The 12 inch Small Major has 2 octaves and is great to copy tunes.
The Small Minor is great to create. A more Classical, Renaissance, Baroque Old World sounding flute. The 11 to 12 inch Small Minor plays in mostly 2 octaves. The harmonic minor scale makes it sound great by simply going up and down the scale and then getting creative by stopping here and there and lifting 2 or 3 fingers also at a time.
Listen to The Courts of the King below played on an old Small Minor Flute to catch the feel!
