The Small Minor 11 inch
The Story of the Small Minor
It was February 1975 and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival was on. The town would soon be buzzing with multitudes but under a tree on this quiet morning at the edge of town was Wallen the flute maker. I studied one of his flutes. “Wallen, why are these holes in such a strange pattern?' Gently holding his hand out to the flute I held, he said, “This is a minor scale! And this is what it sounds like.” The music was beautiful. My thoughts began to race. Some of my experiments in Hawaii sounded a bit like this but this was more complete. These holes are in such a strange position. I bet I could move these two holes over, make them smaller, and it would be a more comfortable instrument. The inspiration for my minor flutes was born.
Great for people just starting out in the world of music. It is a very melodious flute. Anything you do on it sounds great!

Dear Erik and teamwork,
Yesterday I got my first flutes from you: two Small Mayor and one Brazilian Mayor. Today, after some hours of playing, I discovered some important things about the flute and your work as flutemaker. One was how lovely and peaceful the sound of the bamboo flute is. Other was how amazing your work really is: through the Small Mayor, the Pennywhistle, the Kiowa, the Vivaldi, the Quena, the Bamboo Sax, and the Oriental you change and improve the quality of many lives around the world. My own heart was pricked by your extraordinary craft and music, so my way to thank you is sharing this gift of life (and faith) with others.
Peace, love and music, Manuel Sauceverde, Mexico DF.

Hi, Erik.
I' ve tried quite a few flutes, and I want to tell you that the tuning on your Small Minor flute is really impressive.
The sound of the flute is really good, and it's fun to improvise while playing this flute. I mentioned you and the wonderful tuning of the Small Minor flute to the flute maker in Washington, and he knew you and had
good things to say about you and your flutes.
Thanks again for making beautiful looking and sounding flutes available and affordable.
Best regards Deborah from Idaho, September 2006
