Also known as the Low D
A deep, rich, enchanting sound.
For musicians get the concert D so you can play with others in D major, E minor, G, and B minor.
Recommended for:
LARGE HANDS ONLY!
If you have a medium size hand the Brazilian Major (G) is great. For an Irish sound and a small hand span go for the D whistle found in the pennywhistle section.
Regular: Tuned with an electronic tuner in a major scale. Can play all kinds of songs in two full octaves. Great for playing by yourself.
What do you mean by Concert Tuned?
A440 is the present universal standard of tuning. It means that the note A vibrating at 440 cycles is the note the music world agreed on after a world wide music summit. Adding 2 cents to that makes the note happier which we do.
Concert tuned, to me means every note on an electronic tuner is perfect pitch between 0 and the 20 cents mark.
Once the note is too bright even on one note, I do not consider it worthy to be called concert pitch, which would be the pitch needed to be in tune playing in a concert with other tuned instruments.
Will I be able to play the Low Irish D Flute?
Concerning the Low D Irish flute...If you have experience playing piano... the stretch of the top hand or the right hand, would be the distance between the notes C D# F# and on the lower hand on the flute the distance of the holes from center would be like C D and F. I consider this a large flute. Remember if you go to a piano or keyboard to check this out don't use the thumb. The thumb will be under the flute holding it.
What you are saying
Dear Mr. Erik,
I am writing to thank you for the excellent flute. Recently my parents came down to Florida from Toronto and ordered an oriental flute from you. They've just returned and given it to me. I was so very excited to get it. I absolutely love this flute! They had nothing but good things to say about you. They really appreciated your hospitality (especially the tour you took them on, which I am jealous of). They came home happy to have met a very good and special person. I too would like to thank you for dedication and hard work. I believe music is a great way to unify people, and you are helping to do that.
Thank you again,
Constantine H.

Hello Erik
I really want to thank you for the flute that you made for me.
The Vivaldi is perfect and as for the Irish flute I don't have words. I
like it most of all the other flutes that I have and I believe that it will become a great companion of mine.
Also thanks a lot for the excellent communication and shipping. You're very good at what you do.
Warm regards, Labros in Greece
Hi Erik: I LOVE THE BARITONE SAX IN F AND THE CONCERT D FLUTE I GOT FROM YOU. I'VE USED THEM ON MY LATEST CD, THEY SOUND OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR TIME AND YOUR GENIUS. ANDRE OMINETTI in SIERRA MADRE, CALIFORNIA. April 2009
Erik,
All I can say is, what a gifted person you are. The flute (Irish D) is simply a delight to play. I had it working easily in an hour and am playing it very often. The tone is gorgeous and the voice as soft but strong as the fog rolling off the north sea. It truly gives me a musical image of the Scottish Highlands and fields of Ireland.
Thank you,
